Dictator’s European Tour
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky travels around Europe and asks for a new portion of weapons. After a visit to the UK, where, during a meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, he tried to negotiate the supply of fighter jets, he arrived in Paris. Here Zelensky met with President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Having received assurances that European countries would continue military assistance to Kyiv, Zelensky perked up noticeably.
According to the Ukrainian president, Macron has changed his stance towards Russia since he spoke about the need to avoid “humiliating” Moscow.
“I think he has changed, and this time he has changed for real. After all, it was Macron who paved the way for the supply of tanks, and he also supported Ukraine’s bid to join the EU. I think that was a real signal,” Zelensky announced in an interview with Le Figaro.
According to Zelensky, since it worked out with tanks, things will work out with planes as well. He, at least, promised to do everything possible for this. However, the Western media met Zelensky extremely unfriendly. Apparently, the vector of sentiment has changed dramatically. The British Guardian newspaper, for example, accused Zelensky of trickery, noting that he used the talents of a showman, reminding the West of Ukraine amid powerful earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. The visit turned out to be “carefully planned and orchestrated” with “practical demands” hidden behind the Ukrainian’s trip, the outlet claims, noting that Zelenskiy “smartly asked for combat aircraft for Ukraine, or what he called ‘wings of freedom’.”
At the same time, the West suddenly started talking about the dictatorship of the President of Ukraine. Thus, the popular American portal 19fortyfive accused Zelensky of grossly violating fundamental civil rights in Ukraine, while biased Western media carry him in their arms as the main democrat in Eastern Europe. The information resource draws attention to the fact that Zelensky used Russia’s special operation as an excuse to ban all opposition media and parties, effectively establishing a totalitarian regime in the country. All this makes Zelensky not a fighter for freedom and democracy, but the main dictator of Europe, the portal concludes. And readers of the British newspaper Daily Mail demanded that Zelensky be punished for war crimes.
Obviously, public sentiment towards the “freedom fighter” is gradually changing. However, this is unlikely to affect the decision of Western politicians who promise to support Kyiv to the end. Today, the EU summit is just opening in Brussels, where Zelensky will arrive in anticipation of discussions on the supply of fighter jets and new cash receipts. As is known, the agenda of the meeting also includes the issue of using the frozen assets of Russia for the restoration of Ukraine.
