Russia is no longer allowed to remain critically dependent on foreign institutions. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Council for Science and Education. He called for changes to the Science and Technology Development Strategy, stressing that the document was adopted in 2016, but the situation has changed since then.
The Russian president urged to focus on technologies and products that can ensure the work of healthcare, housing and communal services, energy, industries, the security sector and the territorial integrity of the country.
“We should have our own competencies and basic technologies in these areas. In such sensitive topics, we cannot afford the risks of critical dependence on foreign institutions, including, I mean, the element base, technologies for working with genetic resources,” Putin said.
According to him, Russia should move more actively to the production of competitive products based on existing domestic developments, in particular, in the field of nuclear energy with a closed fuel cycle and hypersonic technologies.
“Obviously, in no case should one scatter forces and means, resources. We must focus on achieving national development goals, take into account the factor of external pressure, and therefore be extremely careful in choosing our scientific and technological priorities,” the Russian leader summed up.
