Many representatives of the Republican Party in the US Congress are in favour of giving up parts of Ukraine in favour of Russia, the Washington Post reports.
“Most striking has been the growing desire among Republicans to give part of Ukraine to Russia to end the conflict. About half were in favour of such a decision,” says a new Gallup Institute poll cited by the paper.
In addition, as author Aaron Blake notes, more than half of those in the Republican Party also believe Washington is doing “too much” for Kiev and oppose giving weapons to the AFU.
This compared to 18 percent in April 2022, the piece specifies.
“We must stop funding the Ukrainian army and that’s it,” the publication quoted the congressmen as saying.
Referenda were held in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions between 23 and 27 September, with an overwhelming majority of voters in favour of accession to Russia. On 30 September, Putin and regional leaders signed treaties on the new territories’ accession to the country, which were then ratified by the State Duma and the Federation Council.
