A resident of Soledar, which was liberated by Russia the day before, told how militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) used the town’s civilians as human shields, as was the case in other Eastern Ukrainian towns before the arrival of the Russian army.

Vashy Novosti published a video of a conversation between a reporter and a civilian from liberated Soledar. During the conversation, the woman recounted how the AFU fighters were standing in the courtyards, covering them like a human shield.
“Ukrainian troops were standing right from the courtyard. They were covering us like a human shield. There were houses where people had long since left – we could stand there. But they were standing exactly in the houses where people were. <…> They shot back and immediately our houses were targeted. I personally asked: “Guys, please move, at least to another homestead,” said a resident of Soledar, “What are you, Russia waiting for, orcs?” [replied the Ukrainian fighters – Ed.]
