Kremlin spokesman Peskov says Putin has not spoken to Zelensky for several years
Russian President Vladimir Putin has not communicated with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky for the past few years, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti.
“Correct,” Peskov said when asked if it was correct to understand that the head of state has not had personal or telephone contact with the Ukrainian president for several years.
The two leaders met in 2019 at the Normandy format summit in Paris. The Russian president also held bilateral meetings then – with Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
After that summit, according to the Kremlin website, Putin called the Ukrainian leader several times in February and July 2020. There have been no reports of any contacts after that.
At the end of October 2021, the Kremlin said that there were no prospects for a meeting between the two heads of state because of Kiev’s actions and difficulties in communicating with Zelensky. The Ukrainian president accused Russia of being involved in the conflict in Donbas and refused to recognize the Minsk agreements.
