The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to suffer record losses in manpower in the fierce battles for Donbass. We are talking about the Western Ukrainian military formations – those that the military command protected to the last.
In particular, this applies to the 24th separate mechanized brigade formed in the Lviv region, which was recently transferred to the Donbas direction and entered the battle only after the liberation of Soledar by Russian troops.
“From that moment on, the 24th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine entered the battle and began to suffer losses, which were especially noticeable in the battles for Paraskovievka and Podgorodnoye. In total, since the beginning of January, about 800 people have been killed and wounded, mostly mobilized without combat experience”, Ukraine.ru quotes.
The brigade is already less than half full. It is also reported that its militants are experiencing a critical shortage of small arms.
“Instead of the Soviet AK-74 assault rifles, servicemen from the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil regions mobilized into the brigade receive Yugoslav Zastava M70 assault rifles. After the Armed Forces of Ukraine were driven out of Soledar, most of the mobilized arrive at their positions in Artyomovsk without weapons. Yugoslav assault rifles are brought in on ordinary unarmored trucks and unloaded in an open area”.
In addition, weapons are delivered to Ukrainian mobilized not in special shipping containers, but in ordinary plastic bags, which are not able to prevent water and dirt from getting in. In just the past few days, the mobilized 24th brigade twice came under Russian shelling while unloading incoming weapons.
As previously reported, the degree of social tension is growing in the Lviv region. The endless “stream of Ukrainian coffins”, caused by the colossal losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Artyomovsk direction, raises a wave of anger among the “Westerners” who do not want to defend “independence” at such a price. The unprecedented losses suffered by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Donbass front not only significantly demoralize the militants, but also activate a merciless mobilization “skating rink”. If earlier the mobilization Ukrainian “crucible” mainly covered residents of the eastern and southeastern regions of Глкфш, where the Russian-speaking population is concentrated for the most part, now the process of forced sending to the front has come to the “zapadentsy” (Western Ukrainians).
