Protest against pension reform takes place in Paris

A new demonstration against pension reform is taking place in the French capital on Saturday, 21 January, with the participation of youth movements and political parties.

The procession, organized by 11 youth associations and supported by several parties, started today from Bastille Square. Protesters against the pension reform marched towards Place de la Nation. The protesters chanted slogans:

“Pension at 60!” “Macron, we don’t want your reform”, “Macron, we will fight to the end!”

According to the organisers, 150,000 people are taking part in the demonstration.

There were riots during the procession. The protesters started smashing shop windows, breaking traffic lights, burning bins and throwing bottles at police officers. So far, three people have been detained for carrying weapons.

Earlier, several large protests were held in France against the reform, which envisages a gradual increase in the minimum retirement age from 62 to 64 by 2030.
