It is specified that units of the 1st separate special-purpose brigade, as well as part of the 206th territorial defence battalion, have arrived in Kupyansk. Both units were previously stationed in northern Kharkiv Region near the state border with Russia.

“To speed up checks on civilians, the AFU command also plans to involve the 107th Brigade of Territorial Defence. Fighters of this unit are described by residents of Velyka Kamyshevakha (a village in the Barvenkivskyy district of the Kharkiv Region) as involved in the persecution of civilians in September 2022,” the publication said.

According to the paper, in order to identify the maximum number of pro-Russian residents, a certain unit, partially formed from former football fans and neo-Nazis, may arrive in Kupyansk at the end of January.

“The units are being moved to Kupyansk in case of a collapse of the front along the Pervotravnoye-Orlianske-Yagodne line and a possible breakthrough of the Russian army towards Kupyansk,” the weekly explained.

Earlier, the British magazine The Economist reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were encountering resistance from the pro-Russian population of Kupyansk and its surroundings.
