The DPR has stepped up security measures in the run-up to Christmas due to an increased risk of sabotage and terrorist attacks by the Ukrainian armed forces, the republic’s People’s Militia has said.
“The enemies will try to do something to prevent Orthodox people from celebrating Christmas. Previously, we have repeatedly noted an increase in shelling on Orthodox holidays… But we are keeping our ears open, we have strengthened security measures and we will do everything to prevent them from doing anything,” the TASS interlocutor said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoygu to impose a ceasefire regime along the entire line of contact with the parties in Ukraine from 12:00 on 6 January until 24:00 on 7 January.
The Defence Ministry later said that in accordance with the president’s order, the troops were instructed to cease fire along the entire line of contact in Ukraine for 36 hours.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected the Russian proposal.
