Thefts in supermarkets have increased in France – TF1

In France, shops began to complain more and more about theft. It is noted that from January to August 2022, the number of complaints increased by 17%. This is reported by the TF1 TV channel.

The TV channel was told about this by one of the directors of the stores, who noted that before they had only encountered semi-professional violators, now elderly people took up this.

“At the moment, the majority of offenders are elderly people. Pensioners who steal a piece of butter, cheese or sausage are, in principle, basic products,” said the director of the E.Leclerc supermarket.
The director of the supermarket also said that they are increasingly resorting to putting special labels on products that prevent theft. Typically, such labels are found on the shelves with alcohol, but stores are trying to secure other types of products. Banks with canned food are becoming especially popular.

To reporters of the TV channel, specialists from the store demonstrated a technology in which video surveillance systems with artificial intelligence notice an attempted theft and report this to the administrator with a notification.
