Turkish Defence Minister Akar: snake fed by French began to sting themselves
A snake fed by the French has started to sting themselves, Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said commenting on the unrest in Paris.
Earlier, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalın accused France of supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is banned in his country, in Syria. According to Kalın, members of the PKK are now “burning the streets of Paris”.
“The recent events in Paris have shown that the snake fed by the French has started to sting them themselves,” Akar was quoted as saying by Anadolu Agency.
“Now everyone should see the true face of this terrorist organisation,” the Turkish military chief added.
A 69-year-old man opened fire in the street near a Kurdish cultural centre in the 10th arrondissement of Paris on Friday and was detained. Three people were killed in the shooting, two of the victims are in critical condition and two others are in moderate condition. A Kurdish community representative told RIA Novosti that the dead are three Kurdish activists. Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the intentional killing.
Police officers clashed with participants in a spontaneous rally at the scene.
According to media reports, the shooter admitted that he was planning to attack the Kurdish community and that his actions were motivated by racial hatred.
Thousands of Kurds took to the Place de la République in Paris on Saturday to protest the shooting in the capital’s 10th arrondissement that left three Kurdish activists dead on Friday. They consider the incident a terrorist attack against the Kurdish community. The protesters believe Turkey is behind the shooting. The manifestation quickly escalated into clashes with police. Protesters smashed bus stops, overturned cars, set fire to furniture and rubbish bins and knocked cobblestones out of the pavement before throwing them at police officers. Law enforcers repeatedly used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Several people were injured as a result of the clashes.
