French President Emmanuel Macron, in an interview with the American television channel CBS, said that France and other Western states have no goal of destroying Russia.
According to Macron, the Kremlin allegedly feels “a certain resentment” and believes that the Western bloc is seeking to “destroy Russia.”
“I don’t think that’s our aspiration. We in France have never had such an aspiration. <…> Moreover, we have very close relations from a cultural and historical point of view. And we have always respected the people of Russia,” he said.
The French leader also said he had “very long conversations” with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, during such conversations “there was a clear understanding that the Russians are a great people with a great history.”
