“We are dancing on the edge of a volcano,” former French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in an interview with the weekly Le Journal du Dimanche, describing the EU’s policy on the Ukrainian issue.
According to Sarkozy, in the approach to the ongoing war, the European Commission acts outside the limits of its competence.
“The European Commission is an administrative structure. I just can’t understand on the basis of which article of the European agreements the chairman of the commission, Ursula von der Leyen, considers herself competent in matters of arms procurement and foreign policy”, the ex-president of France asked a rhetorical question.
The politician described his logic as follows: more weapons – more deaths, more hostilities. In his opinion, the EU’s policy in the Ukrainian conflict depends too much on “exaltation, irritation, superficial reaction.”
