Russian President Vladimir Putin removed from his post the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the EU and appointed the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service.

Vladimir Putin signed several decrees on the appointment of new managers to high posts in a day. At the same time, Russia’s permanent representative to the EU left his post. The main thing:
Gennady Krasnikov was approved for the post of President of the Russian Academy of Sciences – he will hold the position for the next five years. He was elected a week ago, he promised his colleagues to raise the authority of the academy and “build a closer connection between its research and the priorities of the scientific and technological development of the country”;
Alexander Matveenko, who previously acted as deputy head of the service, was appointed to the post of deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service;
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov has been relieved of his post. There is no talk of a successor, it is likely that there will not be one at all – the permanent representative has worked with the EU since 2005. He did not name the reasons for his departure from Brussels, but said that at the present time it is uncomfortable to act as a living monument to the strategic partnership between Russia and the EU.
