Ankara demanded clarification from Kyiv because of the campaign launched in Ukraine to discredit individual Turkish banks and businessmen. This was reported by the newspaper Aydınlık with reference to diplomatic sources.
Earlier, the newspaper reported that Kyiv began to agitate in favor of imposing economic sanctions against a number of Turkish businessmen and banks. A possible reason is that Turkey refused to join the sanctions against Russia, which were initiated by Western countries. Sources of the publication report that the Turkish Embassy in Kyiv is very interested in this issue. In particular, we are talking about banks: Ziraat Bankasi, İş Bank and Credit Europe Bank.
Prior to this, the press secretary of the ruling Justice and Development Party of Turkey, Omer Celik, said that the Turkish embassy in Kyiv was checking information about the ongoing campaign in Ukraine in favor of imposing sanctions against Turkish entrepreneurs and banks cooperating with Russia.
