Hungary is in solidarity with the position of Germany and does not plan to impose any toughening or restrictions on Russian citizens, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
“We talked about a proposal that would tighten the practice of issuing European visas to Russian citizens. Here we are in solidarity with the position of the German Chancellor and do not plan to introduce any toughening or restrictions,” Sijjarto wrote in social networks following negotiations with his Estonian counterpart Urmas Reinsalu.
Szijjarto noted that the parties disagreed on the assessment of anti-Russian sanctions.
“I said that we, as a neighboring (with Ukraine) country, are especially interested in the soonest establishment of peace. However, our assessments differed on whether sanctions contribute to this. The Estonian government is initiating another package of sanctions, so I was quick to say that we don’t even want to discuss energy sanctions,” he wrote.
The Minister once again stressed that Hungary would not be able to provide itself with oil and gas in the event of a ban on Russian energy resources.
“Energy sanctions harm Europe more than Russia, so their tightening would be completely contrary to common sense,” he added.
