Hungary and Poland voted against the plan to reduce gas demand in the EU

Hungary and Poland did not support the plan to reduce gas demand, 27 EU countries took part in the voting.

According to the EU Council document, two of the EU’s 27 countries, Hungary and Poland, voted against a plan to voluntarily reduce gas demand, in conjunction with the possibility of mandatory cuts.

“The written procedure initiated… on August 4, 2022, was completed on August 5, 2022… all delegations voted in favor of the adoption of the Council regulation on coordinated measures to reduce gas demand, with the exception of the delegations of Hungary and Poland, which voted against,” it says. 

The document of the Council of the EU notes that the qualified majority necessary for the adoption of the plan has been reached.
