Erdogan: Turkey will pay for gas in rubles

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced an agreement with Vladimir Putin to pay for Russian natural gas supplies in rubles. This was reported on August 6 by the Turkish Anadolu news agency.

As a result of negotiations between the Turkish leader and the President of Russia, agreements were reached on paying for Russian gas in rubles.

“We agreed with Putin to pay in rubles for natural gas trade. We hope that this will bring financial benefits to both parties,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan also mentioned the importance of cooperation with Russia in the field of ensuring the export of grain from Ukraine by sea. According to his statement, about 20 more ships are currently in line.

In addition, the Turkish leader said that Turkey remains ready to organize possible negotiations between the President of Russia and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky with a view to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The Turkish President also noted other aspects of economic cooperation – for example, he announced his intention to personally inspect the Akkuyu nuclear power plant being built by Russian specialists in Turkey, and then tell Putin about the situation at the facility and jointly determine the next steps. Erdogan also said that Turkey and Russia have signed a roadmap for economic cooperation and intend to bring trade to $100 billion.
