Hungary has only one way out – to rely on Russian gas sources

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyjarta said that since the country has no access to the sea, it can only rely on pipeline gas.

“And if you look at the infrastructure in Central Europe, then unfortunately we have no other choice but to rely on Russian sources,” says Siyarta.

The politician added that if you want to buy large volumes of gas in Central Europe, the only source is Russia.

“Currently, our storage capacity is just over 50% full, which would be satisfactory under normal circumstances. But since there are no normal conditions in the European energy market, additional volumes are needed, about 700 million m³,” the Foreign Minister says.

He added that options for the western part of the market were considered, but it was found out that it was impossible to satisfy this need without the Russians.
