Hungary will strengthen the combat readiness of the army and conduct intensive exercises

Hungarian Defense Minister Christoph Szalai-Bobrovnicki said he had instructed to increase the combat readiness of the armed forces and conduct intensive exercises in different parts of the country due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the influx of migrants to the southern borders.

“Until now, the Hungarian army has carried out actions of lesser intensity, normal tasks in peacetime. Now this is changing… To protect peace with us, I ordered the commander of the Hungarian armed forces, Romulus Rusin-Sendi, to prepare to increase the combat readiness of the armed forces. This means that in the coming weeks and months, soldiers will be training more and more intensively in larger units in several parts of the country. Training is accelerating, more reservists are being called up”, Salai-Bobrovnicki published such a statement on social networks.

According to his publication, Hungary is facing “unprecedented security challenges” due to the ongoing conflict in neighboring Ukraine and “violent illegal migrants besieging the country’s southern borders.”

The minister believes that “everyone in Europe is reacting to this: Great Britain has announced the mobilization of its forces, Slovakia has declared a state of emergency, Poland is increasing its readiness”, and Hungary “must also arm itself”.

“Modern national defense, which responds immediately and effectively to challenges, ensures that our days are calm and our nights are peaceful,” said Salai-Bobrovnicki.
