Main force of Russophobia in France is beginning to deflate, Ambassador believes

The main shaft of Russophobia in France is beginning to deflate, said Russian Ambassador to Paris Alexei Meshkov.

On Friday, the Russian Ambassador to France laid wreaths at the monument to Russian members of the Resistance movement at the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris. The event is timed to the Victory Day on May 9th.

“There are difficulties that are created for our citizens in everyday life – someone closes accounts, someone does not open. Children and students experience inconvenience from communicating with their colleagues. There were acts of vandalism against all our foreign institutions in France, but today the main the wave of Russophobia is beginning to deflate,” Meshkov told reporters. He also expressed hope that soon the situation should return to a normal, civilized course.

At the end of March, Russians and citizens of Belarus living in France began to face the blocking of transactions and even the closure of accounts. This includes, in particular, clients of the French banks Société Générale (SG), CIC and BNP Paribas. In this regard, an initiative group of victims created an open petition on the Change.org website calling for an end to discrimination based on nationality.

At the request of RIA Novosti, the bank Société Générale reported that the financial institution strictly complies with the current rules and implements the necessary measures for the strict application of international sanctions against the Russian Federation.
