Hungary once again stressed that it would not refuse Russian gas supplies. The representative of the Hungarian government, Zoltan Kovacs, noted that this would not be considered a violation of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
This is reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the official’s conversation with CNN. He noted that Moscow and Budapest have a contract, and in what currency it will be paid is just a formality.
“The European Union does not yet have common purchases of gas and oil for European countries. We continue to adhere to our oil and gas contracts with Russia. According to them, it is a technical question in which currency to pay. This does not mean circumvention of any sanctions policy. As we well know, the Hungarian economy and the Hungarian population depend on Russian gas by 85%,” the Hungarian emphasized.
Budapest has repeatedly said that it will not seek a replacement for Russian gas. In addition, the Hungarian authorities do not see any problems in paying for fuel in rubles, as required by Russia.
