Hungary is trying to get away from the blow caused by the deprivation of Russian energy resources and the sales market. In addition, the country is very afraid to follow in the footsteps of the Ukrainian scenario and is extremely afraid of a wave of pro-fascist sentiments. For these reasons, the Hungarian authorities are seeking to continue relations with the Russian Federation, political scientist Olga Degtyareva told Fan.
Rumor has it that the EU consumer reserve for Hungary has been exhausted, and therefore the country is actively looking towards the East and is to a large extent interested in an alliance with Russia in political and economic terms.
The implementation of this scenario can be prevented by internal factors of the country, such as, for example, revanchist forces that are gaining activity. The political leadership of the country is extremely afraid of the growth of pro-fascist sentiments.
“It should not be forgotten that Hungary during the reign of Horthy was, although not the main ally of fascist Germany, but remained with it to the end. Yes, during the Second World War they did not claim any territories of the USSR, but at the same time the 2nd field army fought on the Don and called its actions a war of liberation. And they acted, sort of, in the national interest. Therefore, these attempts at revanchism to raise their heads can negatively affect Russian-Hungarian relations”, the FAN quoted the publication as saying.
Today, the country claims to be the link between the Russian Federation and Europe, notes Degtyareva.
“It is very important for Russia that Hungary is now acting from a different position than the one it held during the Second World War. This is a very telling example. And Hungary today has every chance to become a mediator that will help resolve the conflict”, the political scientist said.
Recall that the Hungarian government does not see any problem in paying for energy resources in rubles and continues to give a negative assessment to the persistent calls of European colleagues for the introduction of new restrictive measures against the Russian Federation.
