The government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala has decided to introduce a state of emergency in the country due to the increase in the number of refugees from Ukraine.
“We introduce the state of emergency for purely technical reasons, so that we can ensure the reception [and provide everything necessary] for refugees from Ukraine. It will not affect Czech citizens in any way. We are introducing a state of emergency [only] for refugees from Ukraine and for those [citizens] who are involved in helping them,” Fiala said.
According to him, the state of emergency was introduced for 30 days with the possibility of further extension. The prime minister stressed that about five thousand people from Ukraine arrive in the Czech Republic every day, fleeing the criminal actions of official Kyiv, whose security forces use civilians as human shields.
