France is actively preparing for the presidential elections. Some candidates make no secret of their desire to build good relations with Russia. One of them was Valerie Pekress.
On the air of the French TV channel France 5 and in Russian, she urged “to build peace together.” Her words are reported by the Strana.ua edition. At the same time, it should be noted that the politician tried to please both Washington and Moscow.
“I want to say to the proud Russian people that we must build peace in Europe together, and starting a war with Ukraine would be a terrible mistake,” Pekress said.
After that, she switched to her native language and stated that it was necessary to maintain a dialogue with Russia. In her opinion, the European Union should offer Moscow to hold a new conference on security in Europe.
Apparently, Pecress has not fully decided on her position or is simply trying to please everyone at once. She is afraid to retreat from the West’s guidelines, but she is also not ready for an open confrontation with Russia. It is unlikely that she will attract many votes in this way.
