EU flag under Arc de Triomphe in Paris sparks French outrage

France decided to start the new year 2022 with the next stage of separation from the European Union. In the capital of the Fifth Republic, the EU flag was removed, which was hung on the occasion of the presidency of the union.

However, on Sunday morning, January 2, it was removed. This was reported by the political magazine “PolitExpert”. Now there are no flags under the Arc de Triomphe.

It should be noted that usually, under one of the symbols of Paris, the national banners of France are hung out only on exceptional occasions. When the French last led the EU in 2008, the unification blue star flag hung next to the French banners.

The EU flag was removed after the outrage of part of the society. In particular, representatives of right-wing views reacted sharply to him. For example, Marine Le Pen, presidential candidate and head of the National Association, and several of her colleagues called it blasphemy. They spoke out against the insult of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is located under the Arch.
