France: nine cases of infection with the Omicron strain have been recorded

The country’s Minister of Health, Olivier Veran, has said that nine cases of infection with the COVID-19 omicron strain have been confirmed in France

“Nine cases have been confirmed in five different regions”, –  said Veran.

He said the new strain had been identified in the regions of Réunion, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Ile-de-France, Pays-de-la-Loire and Grand Est.

The WHO had earlier decided to classify a new strain of coronavirus found in South Africa as of concern.
