The country’s Minister of Health, Olivier Veran, has said that nine cases of infection with the COVID-19 omicron strain have been confirmed in France
“Nine cases have been confirmed in five different regions”, – said Veran.
He said the new strain had been identified in the regions of Réunion, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Ile-de-France, Pays-de-la-Loire and Grand Est.
The WHO had earlier decided to classify a new strain of coronavirus found in South Africa as of concern.
