Ukraine will redirect gas imports from Hungary to other directions

With the loss of the transit of Russian gas to Hungary, Ukraine also lost the possibility of a virtual reverse from there, according to media reports.

The Ukrainian “GTS Operator” is forced to reorient gas imports from Hungary to other directions, in particular with Poland, Romania, Slovakia.

“Unfortunately, our system and today’s situation is such that without physical transit, we lose the possibilities of virtual reverse. Accordingly, now we are limited in our capabilities and will have to reorient all our agreements to other connection points”, said Olga Belkova, a representative of the GTS Operator.

Earlier, on October 1, Gazprom began supplying gas to Hungary through the Balkan Stream gas pipeline and pipelines in South-Eastern Europe, bypassing the territory of Ukraine.

The Balkan Stream is a continuation of the Turkish Stream. Gazprom and Budapest signed a 15-year contract. The document assumes the supply of 4.5 billion cubic meters. m of this resource annually bypassing the Ukrainian territory.
