This opinion was expressed by former Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, TASS reports. He noted that the interests of a certain part of the American political elite, which believes in the possibility of a unipolar world order, have won out.
“The idea of creating an international anti-terrorist coalition began to take shape: joint efforts to combat a common threat. There were very difficult negotiations. Many were very delicate. Then, in fact, the idea of forming a common security space in the Euro-Atlantic began to emerge. For example, the Russia-NATO Council was created for this purpose”, Ivanov said.
In this regard, he expressed disappointment that in the end the interests of a certain part of the American establishment prevailed and, despite international resistance, they took an action in Iraq, which destroyed all those great efforts to form an international anti-terrorist coalition.
