France and Britain to present to the UN Security Council a draft resolution on a security zone in Kabul

French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris and London will present at an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday a draft resolution on the creation of a UN-controlled security zone in Kabul, writes Reuters.

“Our draft resolution calls for the [boundaries] of a UN-controlled safe zone in Kabul that will allow humanitarian operations to continue. This will provide the UN with a basis for urgent action and, above all, will allow everyone to fulfill their obligations, and the international community to maintain pressure on the Taliban*”, Macron said.

According to him, several thousand people remain in the republic, whom France plans to provide protection. In addition, this zone is necessary, among other things, so that Afghans who did not have time to leave on evacuation flights could hide in it.

The French President noted that it is necessary to carry out coordination between European countries so that a situation does not arise when Afghans “would travel throughout Europe in search of a country that would offer them better conditions.” Earlier it became known that the US Armed Forces have begun the final phase of the operation to evacuate people from Kabul.
