Czech Republic withdraws its diplomats from Afghanistan

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the urgent evacuation of the embassy staff, which is located in the capital of Afghanistan – Kabul.

The head of the department, Yakub Kulganek, told reporters about this decision after a meeting of the crisis headquarters, RIA Novosti reports.

“Unfortunately, the situation is developing rapidly, it also changed during the (crisis) headquarters meeting. I had to make a decision on an emergency transfer to the international airport in Kabul of our diplomats, who are now under the protection of the military police”, he said.

In addition, the diplomat is concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and asked Prime Minister Andrei Babish to hold a meeting of the Security Council on Saturday evening.

Kulganek noted that, despite the difficult situation, at the moment the employees of the Czech representative office in Kabul are safe.

Earlier, other countries also reported on the evacuation of their citizens from Afghanistan. Among them are the USA, Denmark and Norway. American troops have already arrived in the country, and the other two countries have not yet moved to the active phase of this task.
