In France, 114,000 people demonstrated against health passes

Three demonstrations took place in Paris

Protests against the introduction of mandatory sanitary passes for visiting cafes and restaurants during the pandemic coronavirus gathered 114,000 people in France on Saturday. This was reported by the Interior Ministry of the Republic.

Three demonstrations have been held in Paris. According to the authorities, 18 thousand people took part in them. The city police had to block many central streets for several hours.

Participants in the march, which took place in the south of Paris, chanted slogans “Freedom” and “No sanitary pass.” People sang “Marseillaise” and called on the government to abandon plans to impose new anti-sanitation restrictions.

Similar demonstrations were held on Saturday in Nantes, Strasbourg, Perpignan, Bordeaux, Nice, Toulouse and other cities.

On July 12, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the introduction of compulsory vaccinations for medical personnel and several other categories of workers due to the worsening epidemic situation in the country because of the spread of the strain of “delta” coronavirus. Starting in August, the country will require health passes when visiting bars, restaurants and shopping centers. Only those who have been vaccinated and tested negative for coronavirus will be allowed on airplanes and long-distance trains.
