At the talks in Vienna, significant progress was made in coordinating the sequence of steps taken by the United States and Iran to restore the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
In Vienna on June 20, the sixth round of negotiations on the full restoration of the JCPOA ended, which also provides for Washington’s return to the deal. Negotiations have been taking place in the Austrian capital since April.
“During these three months, the delegations managed to make significant progress in agreeing on the parameters and modalities of the restoration process under the JCPOA. They also managed to determine the response and sequence of the steps to be taken by the United States and Iran, and to analyze how the corresponding obligations will be consolidated and verified”, – said Zakharova.
It is not yet clear when the seventh round of negotiations will begin, but it is assumed that it will be the final one, the Russian permanent representative told RIA Novosti earlier.
In 2015, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Russia, the United States, France and Iran signed a Joint Comprehensive Action Plan. The deal included the lifting of sanctions in exchange for limiting Iran’s nuclear program as a guarantor of Tehran’s non-receipt of nuclear weapons. In May 2018, then-US President Donald Trump decided to unilaterally withdraw and reinstate tough sanctions against Tehran. In response, Iran announced a phased reduction in its obligations under the agreement, abandoning restrictions on nuclear research, centrifuges and the level of uranium enrichment.
