Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the US plans for new sanctions against Russia

Before uttering the word “law”, the United States must first punish itself with sanctions for Yugoslavia and Iraq, as well as for those killed and maimed around the world, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that the Geneva meeting between US and Russian Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin did not bring “any changes” to Washington’s anti-Russian sanctions policy. According to her, the law requires the United States to continue to consider sanctions related to the use of chemical weapons.

“How long ago did the United States begin to live by the laws? The way they operate in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons does not fall under any law – complete lawlessness. First, let them punish themselves with sanctions for Yugoslavia and Iraq, millions killed and maimed. And then it will be possible to pronounce the word “law”, – wrote Zakharova in her Telegram channel.

Earlier, the US President’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the United States is preparing a “new package of sanctions” because of the situation with Alexei Navalny. In addition, according to him, the United States will continue to impose sanctions against Russian companies that are building the Nord Stream-2 pipeline.

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov on Sunday called it sad that the United States, which announced plans to introduce new sanctions against Russia, is choosing a path that does not lead to a positive result. According to Antonov, it is impossible to stabilize relations through the next sanctions, and this is not the signal that was sent at the summit of the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States.
