A photograph previously published by France-Presse and Reuters shows that Erdogan gets up from his seat to greet Biden who approached him with his fist, as required by the sanitary-epidemiological protocol in the context of the global coronavirus pandemic. The foreign press, sharing this photo, mainly emphasized that although one of the issues on the NATO summit agenda was the fight against the pandemic, Erdogan was nevertheless without a protective mask, unlike the American leader.
However, the most irritation in Ankara was caused not by the indication of Erdogan’s lack of a mask, but by getting on the pages of Western media and further replicating the very awkward posture of the Turkish leader.
After critical publications on social networks about this, Reuters expressed regret about the “misunderstanding caused by this photo”, explaining that in the picture, Erdogan gets up from his chair to greet the owner of the White House, writes EADaily.
