China condemns G7 statement and calls on group to stop slandering country

China on Monday condemned a joint statement by G7 leaders berating Beijing on a range of issues as gross interference in the country’s internal affairs and called on the group to stop slandering China

On Sunday, the G7 leaders rebuked China for human rights abuses in the Muslim region of Xinjiang, urged Hong Kong to maintain a high degree of autonomy and stressed the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait – all very sensitive issues for Beijing.

The Chinese embassy in London said it was extremely unhappy and strongly opposed references to Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Taiwan that distorted facts and revealed the “sinister intentions of several countries, such as the US”.
