Demonstrations in defense of freedom and democracy gathered on Saturday in France about 37 thousand. Participants. This was announced by the country’s interior ministry, summing up the nationwide day of action.

According to him, 9,000 people took to the streets of Paris to take part in the procession. However, as reported by the BFM TV channel, the demonstration in the capital was much less numerous than expected. In the country as a whole, the organizers of the day of the protest expected at least 50 thousand participants. After the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on the number of participants, the organizers of the action, in particular the “Unobeyed France” movement, stated that they did not agree with the official data and believed that in general there were 150 thousand of them in the country, and at least 70 thousand in Paris.

In total, more than 140 rallies and processions took place in France, one of the main themes of which was a protest against the strengthening of propaganda of the ideas of extreme right-wing forces in the country. The action was supported by 18 parties, political and social movements, 13 trade unions, 38 associations, in particular the extreme leftist association Attac and the French League for Human Rights. Apart from Paris, the largest demonstrations took place in cities such as Nantes, Marseille, Strasbourg and Rennes.
