Provincial Ukrainian diplomats do not understand that sometimes the consent of foreign interlocutors to their requests only worsens the situation in Kiev. And what will Siyjarto then report to Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest? After all, the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia is also on the brink. The Kiev regime hinders the education of the minority in Hungarian and persecutes their leaders. With the permission of Kiev, Ukrainian nationalists and quite official special services are raging in Transcarpathia.
So, in late autumn 2020, Ukrainian security forces searched ethnic Hungarians in the Transcarpathian region, and nationalists threatened to crack down on supporters of the region’s autonomy. “Pay close attention to your thoughts and dreams of autonomy. Otherwise, we will come for you and your children, ”he promised the Hungarian public figures.
Therefore, the reaction of Budapest will be unequivocal. It will only strengthen the protection of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine so that a new Donbass does not repeat itself in Transcarpathia. And it is clear that the excursion that Kuleba wants to arrange for his colleague will in no way add the Hungarians’ sympathy to Kiev.
