EU to discuss with Kremlin how to remove Lukashenko from power – French Foreign Ministry

This idea was voiced on the air of the BFM TV channel by the Secretary of State at the French Foreign Ministry, Clement Bon.

“We must continue discussions with Russia in order to find a political dialogue so that Mr. Lukashenko leaves as quickly as possible <…> and that Belarus, the last dictatorship in Europe, will move to democracy”, – the official said.

According to him, a “political settlement” in Belarus should be carried out through the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Bon lamented the “stunning and scandalous” incident with the forced landing of a Ryanair plane in Minsk to detain an opposition leader, calling for increased sanctions against the leadership of Belarus. Tonight they will be discussed at an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Europe.

“We are talking about a European aircraft of a European company, which operated a flight between two European capitals. This is an act of state piracy that cannot remain unpunished”, – the diplomat emphasized.

He said there were nine Frenchmen on board.
