Estonia recalls ambassador to Paris over suspected corruption

Clyde Kull suspected of embezzlement of budget funds

Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid has recalled the country’s ambassador to France, Clyde Kull, who is suspected of embezzling budget funds. This was announced by the Baltic republic’s Foreign Ministry.

According to its information, cited by the newspaper Postimees, the ambassador was recalled in connection with the initiation of criminal proceedings against him on suspicion of embezzlement of budgetary funds, as well as violations of rules for the handling of state secrets and classified information.

Clyde Kull has been in the Estonian Foreign Service since 1991. From 1992 to 1996 he was Estonia’s ambassador to Belgium, Estonia’s permanent representative to NATO and he represented Estonia to the European Union. He represented Estonia in various international organisations in Geneva from 2000 to 2004 and was ambassador to Germany from 2004 to 2008. From 2012 to 2019, Kull was deputy head of Estonia’s permanent mission to the EU.

Clyde Kull has been working in Paris since 2019, representing Estonia in France, Monaco and Tunisia.
