US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, speaking of the blocking of resolutions on Palestine and Israel in the UN Security Council, said that the US is constantly working in the field of diplomacy, trying to preserve the “two-state principle”.
Prior to that, the United States blocked a UN statement on the Middle East several times.
“We are not standing in the way of diplomacy, on the contrary, we are practically continuously working”, – Blinken said at a press conference in Reykjavik as part of his tour of Northern Europe. The words of the head of the State Department are quoted by RIA Novosti.
In his opinion, the best next steps for Israelis and Palestinians are to preserve the two-state principle.
He also said that “there is an urgent need to end the violence” in the region. Blinken discussed this with partners from Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Tunisia, the European Union, and again this morning with colleagues from Morocco and Bahrain. The Secretary of State also spoke about plans to raise this topic on the margins of the Arctic Council.
On Sunday, China, Norway and Tunisia proposed, following an open meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in the conflict zone between Palestine and Israel, to adopt a Security Council statement for the press on this topic. According to RIA Novosti sources, the United States has again blocked the adoption of the Security Council statement for the press.
Earlier, it was reported that, according to Chinese media, US policy in the Middle East is subordinated to one goal.
