The United States is using slogans of protecting human rights to solve its own problems, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has clearly confirmed this, according to an editorial of the influential Chinese newspaper Huangqiu Shibao, Parlamentskaya Gazeta reports.
Washington willingly criticizes other countries for “wrong behavior”, for example, accuses China of allegedly “genocide” of Muslims in Xinjiang, but at the same time is silent about the violation of the rights of residents of the Gaza Strip during the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, according to the material of the Chinese publication.
The United States “paralyzed” the work of the UN Security Council, which could take steps to stabilize the situation in the Middle East region, the author of an article in the Chinese media believes. Choosing between its selfish interests and the requirements of international law, Washington is always guided by the first, he said.
“The United States is too focused on the confrontation with China and Russia, and all its steps, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, are subordinated to this goal. As a result, ordinary people suffer, and world order cannot be restored,” the Russian edition quotes an editorial in the “Huangqiu Shibao”.
On the eve of RIA Novosti, citing sources, reported that the United States had blocked the adoption of the UN Security Council statement on Palestine and Israel.
“The United States said that it does not support the adoption of any Security Council documents at the moment”, – the agency quoted one of the interlocutors as saying.
The situation on the border between Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip escalated on May 10. Since then, more than 3,000 rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli military, about 1,210 of which have been intercepted. In response, there were hundreds of strikes against Hamas targets.
As a result of the shelling, ten Israeli citizens were killed and about 50 were seriously injured. In Palestine, 220 deaths are reported. The aggravation of the situation on the border was preceded by clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police in East Jerusalem. Riots broke out on the night of May 8, and was caused, in particular, by the eviction of Arab families from the Sheikh Jarrah quarter.
