Czech Republic intends to demand compensation from Russia for Vrbetica bombing

Minister of Finance of the Czech Republic Alena Schillerova has stated that international law allows the Czech authorities to claim compensation from Russia for damages caused by the explosion of military depots in Vrbetica in 2014

“The most accessible route seems to be international compensation, in accordance with international law, because if we went by way of compensation within criminal proceedings, it would be very long”, –  Schillerova said.

According to her, the amount of compensation was one billion crowns (about 47.5 million dollars). Radim Holis, head of the Zlín district, which includes the Vrbetica settlement, said the amount “is not yet final and may include compensation for psychological damage to the local inhabitants.

Recall that the Czech Republic declared 18 Russian diplomats persona non grata, who, according to the Czech Security and Information Service, are allegedly members of the Russian secret services and were involved in the explosion of military depots in the village of Vrbetica in the east of the country in 2014. The Russian Foreign Ministry strongly protested to Prague and declared 20 employees of the Czech embassy in Moscow persona non grata
