According to Korrespondent, Bulgarian businessman Emco Emelian Gebrev supplied ammunition to Ukraine after 2014. He himself told the New York Times.
In correspondence with the publication, Gebrev admitted storing ammunition in a warehouse in the Czech town of Vrbetice, where an explosion took place in 2014.
“Gebrev has previously denied supplying to Ukraine since the start of the conflict in the east of the country, the New York Times notes. In a letter dated 23 April, he said Emco had signed a contract with “authorised Ukrainian companies” in late 2014. Before that, he noted that the ammunition stored in a warehouse in Vrbetica had not been allocated for deliveries to Ukraine”, – the report said.
The NYT, citing former and current Ukrainian officials, notes that Emco signed a contract in 2014 to supply artillery ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces. The former official said that boxes of ammunition destined for Ukraine were marked as going to Thailand, this was done so that those sympathetic to Russia could not obstruct the deliveries.
