Yellow vest activist sentenced in France

The court found Christophe Schalanson, a well-known participant in the yellow vest protest movement, guilty of committing “armed provocation against state power”.

According to the French edition of News Front, the activist was sentenced to a suspended prison term of 6 months, as well as a five-year ban on the observance of civil rights.

“There is practically no case law on this issue, especially after the entry into force of the new criminal code in March 1994”, – prosecutor Pierre Gagnoud commented on the verdict.

On October 29 last year, just hours after the armed attack on the Basilica in Nice, Chalanson posted a video on the social network, where he talked about the national uprising. It was this video that became the reason for the lawsuit.

“They want to silence me”, – said the activist himself.
