However, this will not mean abandoning all restrictions, the State Department said.
As reported by TASS, on Friday, a high-ranking State Department spokesman said at a special telephone briefing for journalists on the talks in Vienna on the Iranian nuclear deal that the United States is ready to lift sanctions against Iran that run counter to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program. but this does not mean abandoning all restrictions.
“Without going into details, I would say that our position is that we are ready to cancel all sanctions that run counter to the JCPOA and the benefits that Iran expects from the JCPOA. But this does not mean that they will all be canceled, because there are some that are reasonable”, – the diplomat said.
According to him, Washington regards Tehran’s words as “an intention to return to the deal”. The Foreign Ministry spokesman recalled that the United States and Iran did not conduct direct negotiations in Vienna, they communicated only through delegations that participated in the first face-to-face meeting of the Joint Commission of Iran and five other JCPOA members – Russia, China, Germany, Great Britain and France – this year. According to the rest of the delegations, the diplomat continued, the representatives of Iran at the consultations behaved seriously, in a businesslike manner”.
“We take this as a sign that perhaps they mean what they say they want to return to compliance with the JCPOA”, – he added.
A spokesman for the foreign ministry explained that the United States will abandon the sanctions imposed in connection with the terrorist activities attributed to Tehran, human rights violations and interference in the American elections. Yet other sanctions that run counter to the JCPOA, the Washington administration is ready to lift if Tehran returns to compliance with the nuclear deal.
