According to the Turkologist Vladimir Avatkov, as long as the current ruling regime remains in Turkey, a new channel will most likely be built.
Russian political scientist and specialist on Turkey, Vladimir Avatkov, on his Telegram channel tried to draw conclusions about the plans to build a new canal near Istanbul and its combination with the Montreux Convention.
“Nobody cancels the Montreux Convention, but creates more conditions for a) for its cancellation in the future, b) for Turkish prosperity and leadership in the region and the world, – Avatkov write, – We remember the words of Erdogan: Turkey “will receive sovereign rights as an alternative to the restrictions of the Montreux Convention”.
According to the expert, the channel should be seen as a challenge and an opportunity.
“Soon the tender, whose lands are around, we are looking for the benefit of Erdogan’s family, we help and – all is well, we are making a Russian restaurant with a beautiful view at the entrance to the Canal”, – Avatkov emphasized.
