Hospitals in Ile-de-France are over 130% occupied when some 30,000 people are infected with the coronavirus every day
According to the French editorial board of News Front, the situation in the Paris region or Ile-de-France has reached a critical level. Doctors now have to choose which patients will receive treatment.
Hospital occupancy rates here stand at 130%, said Dr Gillali Annan, head of the intensive care unit at the Raymond Poincaré hospital in Garché.
“The situation has reached an extremely critical level”, – said the medic. – “We have found ourselves in a situation of overload. We now have to prioritise, as we have four or five patients per available bed”.
The situation is unlikely to stabilise any time soon, complains Annan.
Earlier it was also reported that a new strain of coronavirus had been identified in France. It is suspected to be more contagious and more resistant to current vaccines. Against this background, the daily increase in infected people in France has reached 30,000.
“About 10% of them will go to hospital and about 5% of them will go to intensive care, with one in three people in intensive care dying. This is the reality on the ground”, – Annan stated.
