French MEPs, against whom Kiev imposed sanctions for visiting the Crimean peninsula, consider them illegal and intend to complain about such actions of the Ukrainian authorities to the president of the European Parliament
Virginia Joron, Philippe Olivier and Jean-Lin Lacapelle believe such sanctions are like “pressure on parliamentarians acting within their mandate”.
“The right of parliamentarians to freely form their own opinions about the situations they deal with is a key principle of any democratic parliament. This includes freedom of movement for MPs and the rejection of any coercion”, – the MEPs said in a joint statement posted on the Identity and Democracy faction’s website.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed sanctions against several MEPs from France who visited the Crimean peninsula.
