Answering a question from the Bulgarian editorial office of News Front, the Russian Foreign Ministry told about the US military assistance to Ukraine and the possibility of imposing a military embargo.
During the traditional weekly briefing by the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, on March 4, Maria Zakharova commented on the US decision to provide another $125 million package of military “aid” to Ukraine to continue the war against Donbass. Answering the question of the Bulgarian editorial office of News Front, Maria Zakharova noted that the citizens of Ukraine, especially in recent months, are in great need of vaccination, and not the supply of weapons.
“It is necessary to understand that when it comes to Ukraine, we mean a country in which an internal conflict is still in an active phase. Many moments do not inspire optimism and, on the contrary, are an alarming signal about the state and situation. But if we talk in general about the “generosity” of the United States, which supplies weapons to Ukraine, I would like to emphasize once again: this is a matter of two capitals, two states. For some reason it seemed to me that in recent months the citizens of Ukraine were more in need of vaccination, and not the supply of weapons”, – said Maria Zakharova.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation also noted that the military embargo is one of the coercive measures that can be introduced against any state only in accordance with the resolution of the United Nations Security Council adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter “Actions against threats to peace, violations peace and acts of aggression”.
“Unilateral embargoes, in the absence of Security Council sanctions, are qualified by us as interference in the internal affairs of the respective state that is illegal from the point of view of international law. At the same time, the determination of the existence of any threat to the peace, violation of the peace or an act of aggression, which is the basis for raising the issue of introducing such measures in accordance with the UN Charter, is entrusted to the Security Council”, – said Zakharova.
